As SOLEX 2026 came to a close, LOFA Chairman Alwyn Williams told SOLEX Sun about the success of a truly sizzling SOLEX.

"SOLEX 2026 has been a fantastic show. The members have made fantastic efforts in the quality of their stands, the quality of the product that they're showcasing and I think the level of detail that people have gone to inspire the retailer of how to sell the product, has been exceptional.

"The people that have come into the show, the retailers have been quality retailers. The numbers of people visiting versus the time they spend in the show has been better than ever. The feedback from other members that I've spoken to has been the same, that it's about the quality of the people that are coming, that are making the show, what it is.

"The awards night on Tuesday was great. It gave us an opportunity to come together, to highlight the innovation, the detail that people have gone to in designing the product and making their stands what they are and to be able to award some of them.

"We're all about engaging the retailers, getting them excited about what we have and what we can offer in order for them to then take that back into their shop floor, because that at the end of the day, the product has got to sell and we need the retailers to sell those products for us.

"For me at SOLEX it’s about the fun that you have with people as well, the camaraderie between not just the retailers and the suppliers, but between members too. I always say it takes three different elements. You've got the supplier, you've got the customer and you've got the employee. And it takes all three to make things work. Not one is more important than the other.

"As the show comes to a close I just want to thank everybody, from all of our members and the hard work that they've put in over the not just the last three days, but the time they've spent to create everything that they needed to bring it to life here at the show.

"Thank you to all the retailers that have taken the time out of what is a real busy time for everybody at the moment. Without both of those there is no show. We cannot do this without the members putting the time and the effort in to coming here and the retailers coming to see us. As an association (LOFA) we only have a show because of you.

"Also a big thank you needs to go to Gina and Sam for the hard work that they put in for the whole year leading up to this to make sure that when we as as members turn up it's a seamless operation.  That only happens with hard work and these guys put it in.

"So thank you to everybody that's taken their time to do it."

LOFA's General Manager and SOLEX Event Director Gina Hinde revealed the feedback from both visitors and exhibitors had been overwhelmingly positive. Find out what she had to say about this year’s event.

The Nettlestone sofa set with coffee table and large (love seat) armchairs - pictures above - has proved to be a big seller for garden centre sales, with ex-warehouse stock and drop ship available for smaller centres to maximise their garden furniture sales.

The unique feature of the Pumpkin range (above) - all the fabric parts can be removed completely for winter storage - is a set that buyers are actually saying has year round sales appeal as it is ideal for conservatory or other indoor uses too.

While weave products on display at SOLEX overall have been greatly reduced on previous years, Woodlodge have seriously increased their weave appeal by offering 6 colours of weave.

Stuart Whalley of Woodlodge told SOLEX Sun: "Rather than saying weave only comes as you see it, at Woodlodge we've always offered a choice. But this year we've offered an even greater choice.

"For the last three years we've had two weave options. Now we have six, so that what that allows is each retailer to select their colour that suits their demographic. They know their customers best, so they can then tailor it to their customer and be almost exclusive.

"South of Birmingham it's more the lighter colours and then we have customers much further north and across in Ireland that will go for the darker colours.

"The concept has been very well received because we offer breadth of choice."

Customers of Hartman who place container orders before July 28th, will be entered into a competition to host one of three in-store appearance with David Domoney.

Three winners will be picked at random from the prize draw which will be sponsored by Hartman. They can choose when and where to hold the event which includes a 30-minute live gardening masterclass, a Q&A and book signing.

Using props from garden centres and considering the time of year, David will tailor his talk to offer advice on how to garden in that particular season. This is the third year the competition has run, such has been its success.

The Seabourne Dining Set for either four or six also has two recliners easy to push back with the touch of a button. From Norfolk Leisure it is offered in Thyme aluminium frames with matching coloured rope work, and accents of wood on the arm rests to provide extra comfort. Made from sintered stone, the large dining table comes in Sand Stone complements the green tones and wood.

Norfolk Leisure is also bringing new innovation to its Royce Cube Retractable Pergolas. A new feature for this year is the function to fully retract just half of the roof, and it has added sliding glass doors to its option of installing sides.

Also promoting its Keter brand of outside storage, it was displaying a cupboard with roll down cover which allows for a television to be mounted, and then completely enclosed when not in use. This alleviates the need for customers to buy an expensive outdoor television as it keeps a standard indoor television dry.

In a matter of moments, Steve McLaughlin and Russell Helps from Minster, ably demonstrated how to turn a wooden bench into a picnic bench with table.

Made from acia wood the ingenious Folding Bench Table is perfect for anyone with a small courtyard space as it offers versatility and flexibility in small spaces. It retails for around £240+vat.

In bright pink and turquoise, the Igloo range of matching portable coolers, ice boxes and insulated cups really stands out on the shop floor. 

With RRP’s ranging from £25-£400 there’s something for everyone and every situation from camping to gardening and days out, keeping drinks and food cool from one to five days.

Chris Melly, Sales & Brand Manager, says the 90L portable cooler on wheels (much like a suitcase and launched last year) has been a big seller and is being joined later on this summer by two new colours – Champagne and Black & Champagne.
